Although she started later than most with her art journey, she happily succumbed to the wonders of expressing herself through her art. And with the support of her husband and family, she embarked on to become an amateur artist.

Her dreams of being a recognized painter were only realized after she went to Saudi Arabia and her painting was for the first time selected for an exhibition.

But she stopped painting after she came back to India, nonetheless, she started her art journey again after the death of her beloved husband.

PROCESS

Pratima believes in letting her imagination and inner emotions out through her art and doesn’t particularly care for imitating other works. Painting is something that brings her freedom and taking it as a job or a chore is something she does not want for herself. Once, the emotion is let out in a painting then imitating the same emotions into her own painting is not possible for her. Each painting carries the emotions of the painter and she won’t try to copy the emotions of someone else. She will stay too true to her own emotions and paint them.

Pratima Roy usually uses oil paints to do her painting. She uses the three famous techniques of oil painting: Chiaroscuro, Scumbling, and Alla Prima.

Process
CHIAROSCURO
Chiaroscuro is the technique that highlights the dark and light aspects of a painting. It gives the painting a dramatic look which enhances the realisticness in the painting.

SCUMBLING
Scumbling on the other hand gives texture to the painting. A soft layer of opaque paint is applied with a dry and stiff brush. Ultimately creating gorgeous textures.

ALLA PRIMA
Alla Prima is a technique when you paint in layers without the layers drying, this creates an authentic and unique look for the paintings.
